Ginger ( Zingiber officinale ) is a rhizome from the Zingiberaceae family (like turmeric) native to India and used in cooking but also in traditional medicine.
It has antiemetic properties and is therefore used in the treatment of nausea and vomiting.
What are the properties of ginger?
Traditionally, ginger root has been used to prevent nausea and vomiting. These anti-nausea properties are due to gingerols and shogaols.
These anti-nausea properties have been verified in clinical studies.
What are the health claims of ginger?
Ginger does not have any health claims validated by the EFSA.
Its traditional uses in relieving nausea and digestive disorders are recognized by the WHO, the commission and ESCOP.
