Ingredient sheet: Laminata seaweed
What is kelp?
Laminaria algae ( Laminaria digitata ) is a brown algae of the Laminariaceae family, a variety of Kelp .
It is used in particular for its iodine content, these algae being particularly rich in it (around 5mg/g).
What is kelp?
The word "Kelp" comes from English. It is used to refer to large brown algae.
Depending on its type, kelp is used in cooking, cosmetics, or to provide iodine.
What is the use of laminaria seaweed at Phytocea?
At Phytocea, we have selected Laminaria digitata. We use it in Thyro, our nutraceutical food supplement dedicated to optimal thyroid function. In the Thyro food supplement, we aim to provide the thyroid with everything it needs to properly synthesize its hormones (thyroxine and triiodothyronine) . One of the key elements for the synthesis of thyroid hormones is iodine. Indeed, iodine is essential for their synthesis, and it appears that the population tends to be deficient. A public health measure has been implemented to limit this deficiency: the use of iodized salt (salt is artificially iodized; ⚠️fleur de sel, such as Guérande salt, is not iodized). However, this measure is not sufficient.
Thyro contains kelp to address this deficiency. Kelp is particularly rich in iodine, specifically potassium iodide, which is naturally present in this seaweed. The WHO recommends a daily intake of 150µg of iodine for adults and 290µg for pregnant women.

⚠️It is recommended not to consume excessive amounts of kelp chronically, as this can lead to an excess of iodine intake.
