Ingredient information: Vitamin B5
What is vitamin B5?
Vitamin B5, or pantothenic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin. It is a component of coenzyme A and PCA.
What are the properties of vitamin B5?
Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) is a component of two derivatives particularly involved in metabolism:
- Coenzyme A (usually abbreviated CoA)
- Acyl carrier protein (ACP)
These two molecules are involved (non-exhaustively) respectively in the oxidative catabolism of fatty acids (energy supply) and in the biosynthesis of fatty acids.
Pantothenic acid is unstable, but its salts and panthenol are stable when stored in a dry, cool place, and are resistant to air and light. Vitamin B5 is water-soluble, heat-sensitive, and pH-sensitive (< and > 7).
What foods are richest in vitamin B2?
Vitamin B5 is present in almost all foods of plant or animal origin.
Below are some examples of foods and their thiamine concentration (mg/100g):
- Dry yeast: 1 - 20
- Liver: 4 - 10
- Kidneys: 2 - 5

⚠️ Vitamin B5 is sensitive to heat and can be destroyed by cooking.
Vitamin B5 deficiency leads to fatigue, headaches, insomnia, and paresthesia.
Recommendations for intake Riboflavin is 5-6 mg per day in adults .
